Teleprompter Overview

The qPlayer teleprompter is a Plus feature that gives performers and presenters on-screen text during playback. There are two ways to use it:

• Simple lyrics: Paste or type text into the Lyrics field on any cue. The text displays in the confidence monitor during playback. This works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
• Studio prompt lane: In Studio on Mac, add a prompt lane to the timeline. Create text blocks, type your script, and resize blocks to control timing. Text scrolls in sync with playback and can be sent to a dedicated display.

Simple lyrics are ideal for song lyrics and short notes. The Studio prompt lane is designed for longer scripts, presentations, and shows where precise timing matters.

Adding Lyrics

The simplest way to show text during a cue is the Lyrics field in the cue editor.

1. Open the Edit Cue view by tapping a cue.
2. Scroll to the Lyrics section.
3. Paste or type your lyrics as plain text.
4. Tap Save.

During playback, lyrics appear in the confidence monitor area on your device. On Mac, they can also be sent to a dedicated prompt display.

Sync Lyrics to the Audio

Plain lyrics scroll at an even pace. To make them line up exactly with the music (each line landing right as it's sung), "train" the timing once with Sync to Audio in qPlayer on Mac.

1. Add your lyrics to the cue as plain text (see above).
2. Click Sync to Audio… next to the lyrics: in the cue Inspector, or on a Studio prompt block.
3. Press Play to start the cue's audio.
4. As each line begins, press the Space bar (or Tap to time line). qPlayer stamps the current line and moves to the next. The header tracks your progress (“X of N lines timed”) with a running clock.
5. Slipped a beat? Undo last steps back a line, or Restart begins again from the top.
6. Click Save when you're done.

qPlayer stores the result as time-synced (LRC) lyrics, so from then on the prompter scrolls and highlights each line in perfect time with the track, on the confidence monitor and any prompt display.

Studio Prompt Lane

For precise control over prompt timing, use the prompt lane in Studio on Mac.

1. Open a cue in Studio on your Mac.
2. Add a Prompt Lane to the timeline.
3. Click on the lane to create a new text block.
4. Type your script into the text block. Each block can contain a verse, paragraph, or section of your script.
5. Resize blocks by dragging their edges to control how long each section is displayed.
6. Add more blocks for each section of your script.

How Scrolling Works

During playback, the prompt display scrolls through each text block in time with the audio. The scroll speed is determined by the length of the block on the timeline: a longer block scrolls more slowly, a shorter block scrolls faster.

WPM Indicator

Studio shows a words-per-minute (WPM) indicator on each text block. This helps you pace your content. If the WPM is too high, the text will scroll too fast for comfortable reading. Stretch the block longer on the timeline to reduce the WPM.

Prompt Display Output (Mac)

On Mac, you can assign a dedicated external display for prompt output. The prompt display shows white text on a black background in a large, readable font with a horizontal reading guide line.

1. Connect an external display to your Mac.
2. Open Settings → Output Preferences.
3. Assign the display to the Prompt role.
4. Enter Show Mode. Prompt text appears on the assigned display.

Mirror Mode

If you're using a beamsplitter glass (teleprompter hardware), enable Mirror Mode in Output Preferences. This flips the prompt text horizontally so it reads correctly when reflected in the glass.

Confidence Monitor

The confidence monitor on your main screen shows previews of both the video output and prompt output. Each panel can be toggled independently.

• Video panel: Shows what's being sent to the video display (cue visuals, background images)
• Prompt panel: Shows what's being sent to the prompt display (scrolling text)

Toggle each panel using the icons in the transport bar. Both panels animate in and out smoothly.

On iPhone and iPad, the confidence monitor shows in the Player view above the cue list. Tap the lyrics icon in the toolbar to switch between video and prompt preview.

Tips for Presenters

• One block per section. Create a separate text block for each verse, paragraph, or talking point. This gives you independent scroll control and makes editing easier.
• Keep blocks readable. Each block should contain enough text to fill the display without overflowing. If a block is too long, split it into two.
• Watch the WPM indicator. A comfortable reading speed is 120-160 WPM. If the indicator shows higher, stretch the block on the timeline to slow the scroll.
• Test with the display. Run through your show with the prompt display connected before the live event. Font size and scroll speed can feel different on the actual display versus the confidence monitor preview.
• Use Mirror Mode for glass. If using a beamsplitter teleprompter, enable Mirror Mode in Output Preferences before the show.
