MIDI Overview

MIDI is a Gig feature, included in Gig, Plus, and Pro. qPlayer works with MIDI in two directions:

Send a Program Change when a cue fires, then map a foot controller to GO with MIDI Learn.

Sending MIDI on a Cue

Each cue can send a MIDI message the instant it starts playing, ideal for changing a sound on stage without touching another device. A common use: fire a Program Change to switch the patch on a guitar processor or synth as each song begins.

  1. Open the Edit Cue view and find the MIDI section.
  2. Choose what to send: a Note or a Program Change.
  3. Set the value (note number or program number) and the MIDI channel your device listens on.
  4. Done. When the cue fires, qPlayer sends the message to every connected MIDI output.

Tip

Match the MIDI channel to your hardware (many processors default to channel 1). Program numbers are sometimes labelled 1–128 on the device but sent as 0–127. If a patch lands one off, that's why.

Triggering qPlayer (MIDI Learn)

Use a foot controller, drum pad, or any MIDI controller to drive playback hands-free. MIDI Learn maps a control in seconds:

  1. Go to Settings → MIDI.
  2. Tap Learn next to the action you want to map (GO, Stop, Next, or Previous).
  3. Press the pad or pedal on your controller. qPlayer captures it instantly.
  4. Repeat for each action. Your mappings are saved automatically.

Note

A foot pedal mapped to GO is the most popular setup: advance every cue without taking your hands off your instrument.

Connecting MIDI Devices

qPlayer works with standard MIDI devices, no drivers needed:

Connected devices are shared across MIDI input and output, so a single controller can both trigger cues and receive your cue messages.
